Risk factors for tinea pedis include:

- Certain medication, such as corticosteroids or medications that suppress the immune system
- Hot and humid environments
- Walking barefoot in public areas, such as changing rooms, swimming pool
- Wearing socks with poor ventilation
- Prolonged exposure to water
- Involvement in certain sporting activities.

Symptoms:
Tinea pedis does not have a normal distribution or pattern and can involve just one foot or both feet. It can present as:

-
scaly skin on the sole and the sides of the feet
-
moist, peeling skin
-
an unpleasant smell

thickening of the skin
-
the skin discolouring, appearing white, yellow, or green
If you notice changes to the skin or nails of the feet or hands, you should seek the advice of a qualified Foot Health Practitioner to ensure early antifungal treatment.
